“Gratitude” = a feeling of being thankful to somebody for doing something. Many Khmer parents want their children to be grateful to them. However, children sometimes fail to properly show their thankfulness to their parents.

Grandma Tith, a widow, has two sons. She has been widow since her husband was purged by the Khmer Rouge in Pot Pot’s regime. Both sons are married and live with their respective wife in Prey Veng and Kampong Speu. She lives in Takeo province. Since she gets much older and senile, her sons do not want her to stay alone. They suggest that she live with a son.

Instead of being happy for having such grateful sons, she is so disappointed with them.
“How can I be happy?” said Grandma Tith, “the son, who is in Prey Veng wants me to live with the one in Kampong Speu and vice versa.”
